Screeners can be created in several different ways in Stock Rover. This section describes how to access the Screener Manager, create a new screener, add filtering criteria to a screener and test a screener.
Contents
There are four ways you can create a new Screener in Stock Rover, they are as follows:
Right-clicking on ‘Screeners’ in the Start Menu.
Right-clicking on ‘Screeners’ in the Navigation panel and selecting ‘Create New Screener’.
Selecting Create a New Screener under Screener Actions.
Searching for ‘Create Screener’ in the Search bar (the magnifying glass at the top of the Start Menu).
The screenshot below shows you where you can select whether your screener will screen for stocks or ETFs or Preferred tickers. You can also select the Universe from which to screen. For example: the Major US Listings, the S&P 500 only or All Exchanges.
When you change the Equity Type to ETF, it also changes the available criteria to include dozens of ETF specific measures such as Expense Ratio and Morningstar Ratings.
Once you click ‘Add Criteria’ it will bring up a new window (shown below) where you can select a metric or multiple metrics, either by navigating through the folders or by using the search box.
You can set the criteria for a metric and then select the next metric. As soon as you select another metric, the value you added for the prior metric is automatically recorded. This process speeds data entry. Once all the metrics are specified, you can click the OK button to see all the you specified in a list in the main create screener window.
To set the criteria click into one of the boxes next to Filters and enter the value you want to evaluate against, as highlighted in the screenshot below. Also available in the criteria for the metrics that support historical data is the Time Period button also seen in the screenshot below. Note, this option is only available with the Premium Plus plan.
Clicking the Now button will launch the time periods window. This will display the options that are available for the metric selected, as seen below. If a time period other than Now is selected it will create equation statement in the criteria. Please see Editing Equation Criteria section for more detail.
Note that you can see how many stocks pass the screener as you adjust the screener’s values. You can also get a preview of some of the tickers that pass the screener. This is a time-saver as it allows you to see how many tickers and which tickers are passing the screener without having to explicitly save and then run the screener.
You can also test individual tickers on an ad-hoc basis to your screener and see how well they meet the screener’s criteria. When you enter ticker(s) into ‘Test Tickers’ the tickers will show as bolded in the preview pane, the score shows how well the tickers fared. If you mouse over the score you will see which of the criteria passed or failed.
